The theme of this year’s TestExpo17 is Mind the Gap – QA Competencies vs. Client Demand #TestExpo17.

Are You Up To Speed?

The theme of this year’s TestExpo17 – Mind the Gap – addresses the common concern amongst both QA and IT professionals alike, in all sectors, that there is a perceived gap between current competencies and what their organisations require of them. The key drivers are the rapid adoption of constantly developing frameworks and technologies including Agile, DevOps, IoT, Robotics and SMACT, which in turn impact the ways in which we test and implement QA. In the Public Sector, this issue has also been compounded by the changes to the IR35 Regulations, which have increased the challenges associated with attracting the best technology workers.

If you’re a test professional and have recently found yourself asking “how can I ensure I'm up to speed?” or a business leader wondering how to close the gap, improve quality and increase speed to market, then come along to TestExpo17 on 31st October and find out what your next steps should be.

Here we take a sneak peek at some of the speakers and their presentations…

Put Down the Cricket Bat and Test Faster!

Sogeti’s Enterprise Architect and Solutions Director, Andrew Fullen will be following up on his article in Computing Magazine, entitled “DevOps: Test at every point in the lifecycle (and threaten testers with cricket bats)” with a presentation called “Put Down the Cricket Bat and Test Faster!” He will look at the development of automation and how it is no longer restricted to functional and regression testing and is fast becoming the responsibility of everyone across the SDLC. Automation is no longer a “nice-to-have”, it has become part of the fabric of successful software delivery. As always with Andrew’s presentations, this promises to be insightful, lively and interactive as he talks to attendees in the DevOps stream at TestExpo17 about how to:

  • Implement automation effectively during the different phases of the SDLC
  • Integrate tangible actions that can add value immediately
  • Build a business case for successful automation, that budget owners will understand and approve

Real Business Results

Tom Gilb, Senior Partner at GILB.com will be revealing practical methods for acheiving Value Agile Delivery, focussing on how to achieve real business results rather than the fall-back position of trying to solve problems by generating code. The key points he will address are quantitively defining the desired multiple values and pursuing them to fruition to achieve a position of “Zero Failure”.

Becoming a Unicorn

A common concern amongst test professionals is how ongoing digital transformation will continue to impact QA and Testing. If you’re hoping to understand how we can go beyond automation and achieve intelligence-driven testing, and find out what the future holds for testers in our DevOps world, then you won’t want to miss the keynote by Mark Buenen, VP Global Leader in Sogeti Group’s Digital Assurance & Testing Practice. Mark will be exploring these key trends and how we can leverage them to achieve innovation, speedier delivery and an excellent customer experience.

Disciplined DevOps & Pragmatic Strategies

Mark Lines, Enterprise Agile Coach at Disciplined Agile Consortium will be looking at the ways in which DevOps is often understood and what it really is in practice, over and above the mere combination of Development and Operations.

Servant Leadership

The final keynote will be delivered by Angie Main, Programme Manager at Barclays Bank plc. Angie will address the concept that up to 70% of the gaps in employee engagement is attributed to outmoded leadership methods. She will offer an explanation of why leadership by command and control doesn’t work and how to implement Servant Leadership that keeps employees happy, engaged and focused.

The event programme is most certainly hotting up with excellent speakers, hot topics and round table discussions, as well as opportunities to network with like-minded professionals.
